The Splendid Sampler™ Wednesday

The Splendid Sampler™ Wednesday
(...yes, this part is always the same...)

The Splendid Sampler™ is an internet sew-a-long created by Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson. It is an EPIC sew along...
  • 83 fabric designers have created specific blocks that feature different quilting techniques. (paper piecing, fused applique, etc.).
  • The blocks will be released each week, and are FREE to participants until March 2017. (at that time, they'll use the designs to publish a book).
  • You can use whatever fabric you like.
  • There will be pictures on their Facebook page, etc.
The new block designs come out twice a week....on Sunday morning and Thursday morning.

****************
Last week, our North Carolina member, Jackie, eager to participate in our weekly "Sew and Tell" breakfast session texted pictures of a quilt show she attended with a friend.
It looked like a beautiful quilt show...
And we are just happy any time Jackie can participate with the group!!
LK, a novice sewist with no quilting experience, is doing A GREAT JOB...and really working hard, every day, to make a new block.  She was very pleased this week -- and her blocks were amazing...AND SHE CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH TIME SHE IS SPENDING SEWING...
Any time you see double blocks, you know it's the work of our over-achiever...
LP.   but -- guess what? This week, Block #15 STUMPED HER.  And this is the first week she didn't bring THE WEEK'S CURRENT BLOCK...done in duplicate!!
Block #15, by designer Janice Ryan, is called "Family Affair". The TMBC has officialy renamed it..."Pull Out Your Hair"...it was SOOO DIFFICULT. Especially if you are new to paper piecing!!

THIS is a picture of all my FAILED PIECES...yikes.  Imagine eight sections within a six inch block, and each section has five tiny pieces...and you're sewing on paper, you can't even see the fabric, which, incidentally, is upside down and inside out...
On Sunday, I downloaded the new block and I was excited about learning something new. Really...I remember going to my sewing machine with a sense of happiness.

It was like looking forward to a plate of hot, tasty Mexican food...then finding out it's loaded with Cilantro...

THIS BLOCK WAS SO HARD.  I did it over...and over...and over again.  I am too embarrassed to tell you the truth about how many hours I spent GETTING IT WRONG EVERY TIME...

Then, this magical thing happened!!  I FINALLY GOT IT...
THANKS for capturing this moment, Sandy!!  This is my new picture on Facebook.
